Most of the world's populations live in countries where overweight and obesity kills more people than underweight. WHO

Ukame mkali ulisababisha njaa kubwa na hatimaye wengi kupoteza maisha. 
Baadhi yetu tatakuwa tunakumbuka miaka ile 70 kuja 80 kwa Afrika na karne ya 18 na 19 kwa baadhi ya nchi duniani, watu wengi sana walipoteza maisha kwa ukosefu wa chakula bora ama utapiamlo, kama nilivyosema si wote watakuwa wanakumbuka, lakini wapo baadhi wanakumbuka.

Vifo vya utapiamlo vimekuwepo duniani kote, mfano watu Zaidi ya milioni moja walikufa kule Ireland kati ya mwaka 1845 na 1852, wakaiita “GREAT IRISH FAMINE”  China pia walipitia kipindi kama hiki kwa miaka 3 kati 1958 – 1961, ambapo inasemekana watu Zaidi ya milioni 20 walipoteza wao walikiita kipindi “THREE YEARS OF GREAT CHINESE FAMINE” Pia tatakumbuka ukame mkali na wakutisha uliotokea pembe ya Africa na kupelekea njaa ya kutisha na vifo Zaidi ya laki moja.
Vifo hivi ni majanga ya asili tunaweza tusiwe na uwezo navyo sana Zaidi ya kutoa msaada kwa waathirika lakini dunia hivi sana inashuhudia ongezeko la la kasi vifo vinavyotokana na mtindo wa maisha, yaani watu wengi pasipo kujua wamechagua mitindo ya maisha hatarishi inayowaua taratibu kiasi kwamba si rahisi kujua.

Hii ni summary ya ripoti ya kwanza ya WHO iliyotolewa 2010


Mwaka 2008 vifo vilivyotakana na mitindo ya maisha hatarishi ilikuwa ni asilimia 63% ya vifo vyote dunia, takwimu za shirika la afya duniani zinaonyesha kuwa kati ya million 57 duniani kote vifo milioni 36 vilitokanana na magonjwa yasiyo ya kuambukiza ama ya mitindo ya maisha.
WHO wanasema,   “Noncommunicable diseases (NCDs), such as heart disease, stroke, cancer, chronic respiratory diseases and diabetes, are the leading cause of mortality in the world”.
 




Hii ni ripoti ya pili iliyotoka mwaka 2014, ripoti zote hizi waweza kuzipata na kuzidownload katika website ya WHO.
Ripoti ya sasa 2014 ya WHO inaonyesha kasi ya kutisha ya vifo hivi, wakati duniani kwa ujumla vifo vimepungua  kwa takribani milioni moja lakini vifo vya magonjwa yasiyo ya kuambukiza vimeongezeka kwa milioni Zaidi, kutoka milioni 36 (2008) mpaka milioni 38 (2014) hii ni sawa na ongezeko la asilimia tano, kutoka 63% - 68%.


Je makadirio yakoje? Haya ndio yanaogopesha Zaidi hasa kwa bara letu la Afrika, naomba ninukuu sehemu ya ripoti ya WHO, “NCD deaths are projected to increase by 15% globally between 2010 and 2020. The greatest increases will be in the WHO regions of Africa, South-East Asia and the Eastern Mediterranean, where they will increase by over 20%. In contrast, in the European Region, WHO estimates there will be no increase. In the African Region, NCDs will cause around 3.9 million deaths by 2020”. Research results compiled from the work of nearly 500 researchers in 50 countries conclude that obesity and the diseases that arise as a result are overtaking problems related to hunger on a global scale. The Global Burden of Disease Study 2010, published in The Lancet, provides data about worldwide health trends between 1990 and 2010 and says that obesity-related deaths are occurring three times more than fatalities related to malnutrition and starvation. The report found that one in four deaths in 2010 were attributable to heart disease or stroke and 1.3 million deaths were due to diabetes. Blood pressure was found to be the biggest global risk factor for disease, followed by tobacco, alcohol, and poor diet.
