LONDON (Dow Jones)--U.K. defense giant BAE Systems PLC (BA.LN) Tuesday was fined GBP500,000 for improper accounting in relation to the award of a radar contract in Tanzania.
The decision by a U.K. court ratifies an agreement reached by the Farnborough, England-based company and the Serious Fraud Office earlier this year.
BAE Systems had agreed with the SFO to pay a penalty of GBP30 million. After the fine is deducted from that amount, the balance will be paid in reparation for the benefit of the people of Tanzania.
A judge at Southwark Crown Court also ordered BAE Systems to pay GBP225,000 in court costs.
